Creating Photographics With A Compact Digital Camera

Well… actually you’ll need your compact digital camera and an editing software like Photoshop or Photoshop elements. While some might see this as cheating it’s actually a logical approach many professionals use everyday to create high impact photographic images.

Often people who own compact digital cameras think creative photography is limited to the high end DSLR’s, not true. With a little guidance you too can create some really fun and creative photo graphicimages with your compact digital camera.

First of all it’s important to find subject matter that lends itself to strong graphic lines. In our example photos on the left we chose columns at a local church then shot the photos from a low vantage point to add drama to the image. I liked the strong simple edges the columns provided and knew that once I applied the right software technique it would be a strong image.

Once I had the picture I was looking for I fired up Photoshop, opened the image, did a few minor cleanup items and then applied the poster edges filter. The poster edge filter lets you control Edge Thickness, Edge Intensity, and Posterization. For my own personal taste I was looking for an image that still had the identity of photo yet had really strong graphic lines and texture.

Printed on the right paper and mounted into the right frame this photo will make a great addition to my photographic collection.

I would strongly encourage you to go out and look for things to make photographic pictures of. They are fun and easy to do plus they make great display prints and even better conversation pieces.
